A new public mural is coming to 709 S. Van Buren Road. Planned for the Liberty Tax building, the mural will be located along one of our busiest corridors and will help make the our Small Town, Big Outdoors identity visible to the thousands of people who travel the road each day. Work is expected to begin in April with completion anticipated by early summer.
The mural is a partnership between the City, the Rockingham County Arts Council, and Liberty Tax. It aligns with RCAC’s Murals That Tell Our Story initiative, a growing effort to bring public murals to communities across Rockingham County that reflect local history, character, and spirit.
Brandon Hardison of Hardison Art Studio will create the mural and has contributed the design work at no cost. Known regionally for his public murals in Eden, Stoneville, Mayodan, and Madison, Hardison also contributed to Eden’s Small Town, Big Outdoors initiative alongside woodworker Tripp Bennett of Bark: Stuff Made of Wood, creating the painted butterfly installations along the Smith River Greenway Butterfly Trail.
Property owner JR Cecil donated the wall space and contributed funding. “I’ve seen what murals can do for a place, and I wanted our building to be part of that here in Eden,” said Cecil. “If people drive by and feel something about our town, that’s worth it.”
Cindy Adams, Marketing and Special Events Manager for the City, sees the mural as part of a larger story. “Eden grew up around these rivers,” Adams said. “They’re in the history of this place, and they’re why people are drawn here today. This mural helps make that connection visible.”
The mural reflects Eden’s ongoing investment in its riverfront, greenways, and outdoor recreation assets. A ribbon cutting and public unveiling will be scheduled once the mural is complete.
