The Rockingham Community College Center for Workforce Development project is on budget and on schedule, with plans to begin construction in late 2021 and finish in early 2023.
The City of Eden’s Economic Development Department, led by director Mike Dougherty, supported the ¼ cent sales tax that is funding this workforce development center that will help our children become better prepared for jobs in the future.
The one-story building will be 41,500 square feet, with a main entrance roughly in the center, facing the parking lot across from the Science Building. The CWD will house the programs for Electrical Systems Technology, Industrial Systems Technology, and Machining; a lobby; common areas; offices in an administrative area; conference rooms; a 200-seat corporate meeting room; and a kitchen.
The interior is being planned out now during the design development phase, which will last through August 2020. The remaining timeline includes:
- Construction documents, October 2020-March 2021
- Advertisement for bids, September 2021
- Bid opening, October 2021
- Construction start, December 2021
- Construction completion, February 2023
