The City of Eden is initiating the process to create a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). Existing development and land use related ordinances will be combined into a single document to codify best practices, comply with state law, and improve clarity. What is a UDO?
A UDO (Unified Development Ordinance) is a regulatory document that combines traditional zoning and subdivision regulations with design guidelines, sign regulations, and floodplain and stormwater management to create a single reference document. UDOs can eliminate redundant or conflicting code provisions, streamline the review and approval process, and clarify the procedures and requirements by incorporating illustrations and concise language.
The UDO process will take approximately twelve (12) months. It will involve analysis of existing comprehensive planning documents, zoning and development related ordinances, stakeholder interviews, input from public meetings and identification of strengths and weaknesses within the City’s current approach to development. Reports, analyses, meeting summaries, and code drafts will be available on this page for public review and comment.
