Washington Street Park Mural
At the Eden Strategic Planning Commission’s February 2019 meeting, City staff requested funding to replace the current River Boatmen mural. Many of us had seen the beautiful Stoneville mural and thought the vibrant style of this mural would be welcomed in Eden.
We wanted a more colorful product that reflected the recently completed branding process, celebrated Eden’s rivers, noted the different sections of town, honored Eden’s textile industry and acknowledged the beautiful wildlife and natural resources that make our community so special. The Commission eagerly agreed to fund the mural.
The River Boatmen mural had stood for twelve years but it was never intended to be permanent. It was located in a city-owned park and paid for by a grant and donations. Its purpose to honor the river boatmen who navigated the Dan River had been accomplished. It is being leased to the Museum & Archives of Rockingham County (MARC) in Wentworth and will be placed together with the bateaux.
In early October, the new mural will be unveiled at a special downtown ceremony. We hope everyone will join us in celebrating this new addition to our downtown.
