On Jan. 1, 2018, the independent Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden became UNC Rockingham Health Care, the 13th affiliated hospital in the UNC Health Care system. Having access to expert and affordable care in a rural community gives residents a reliable, trusted and convenient option for their health care needs. UNC Rockingham Health Care offers inpatient and outpatient services, an emergency department, diagnostic imaging, a surgical center and laboratory services. Additionally, the hospital provides cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary services, an Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU), physical, occupational and speech therapies, as well as a pediatric gym, birthing center, a five-star rehabilitation and nursing care center, an urgent care and a mammography suite.
Specialty offerings include neurospine surgery, orthopedics, a wound healing center with hyperbaric treatment, OB/GYN services and a sleep-study lab. A comprehensive, fully integrated cancer center is on UNC Rockingham’s campus. UNC Cancer Care at Rockingham, A Service of UNC Hospitals is one of eight cancer centers that UNC Health Care operates around the state.

Level 1 trauma centers are within a 50-to-90 minute drive from UNC Rockingham, and a helipad on the UNC Rockingham campus makes transferring patients an even faster process.
As the only Birthing Center in Rockingham County, UNC Rockingham is pleased to welcome around 480 newborns each year. A relaxing and home-like setting for labor, delivery and recovery makes parents more comfortable during the birth of their child. Additionally, lactation services are available to help mothers and infants adjust to feeding.
As part of the transition to the UNC Health Care system, major upgrades are in process at UNC Rockingham. A more advanced CT Scanner will be installed in early fall 2018. More than $2.5 million upgrades are in the works this year, enhancing the safety and quality that have recently earned the hospital top grades in hospital scores.
