Eden's City Manager, Stephen "Brad"ley Corcoran, was born in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, the oldest of eight children. 
Brad attended elementary, intermediate and high school in Fairfax County, Virginia, graduating from Robinson Secondary School in June of 1979.
After High School graduation, Corcoran enrolled in Concord College (now Concord University) where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and played four years on the Men's College Tennis Team competing in the NAIA collegiate division and serving as Captain and the No. 1 seeded player during his senior year.
Corcoran graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Community Development and Regional Planning (1984) as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Political Science (1984) and Geography (1986) from Concord College. In 1980 Corcoran took a year off from Concord College to serve as legislative clerk in Washington, D.C. for U.S. Senator John W. Warner of Virginia.
After graduating from Concord College, Brad enrolled in the Urban Affairs program at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University where he graduated in 1986 with a Master's degree in Urban Affairs with concentrations in the areas of management and budgeting.
In 1994 Corcoran received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Public Administration from LaSalle University which included the preparation of a 154 page doctoral dissertation book on "The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Its Financial Impact on Virginia Municipalities". Other continuing education includes graduation from the 2002 Annual Municipal Administration Course through the N.C. Institute of Government at UNC, Chapel Hill and a certificate of study in economic development from the Virginia Institute for Economic Development where he was awarded the Maud Battle Johnson Award for Outstanding Student. In April of 2011 Corcoran received the Credentialed Manager designation from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA).
Corcoran has over twenty six years of full-time experience in the field of municipal management. He has served as Eden's City Manager since February 5, 2001. Prior to that he served eight years as Town Manager for the Town of New Market, Virginia. Prior to that he served as Town Manager for the Town of Vinton, Virginia; Assistant Town Manager/Planner for the Town of Wytheville, Virginia; and Town Manager of Narrows, Virginia. During his tenure in Wytheville he also served as part-time adjunct associate professor at Concord College teaching courses in the field of municipal planning. Examples of other experience includes service over three summers during college as a management intern and then part-time research assistant to former City Manager Don Edmonds, City of Martinsville, Virginia. In addition to his experience in Martinsville Corcoran was responsible for the development of the initial marketing plan for the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center while in graduate school.
For the past twenty-eight years Corcoran has been married to the former Cindy Annette Parker who currently serves as the Director of Elementary Education and Title I for the Rockingham County School System. They are the proud parents of three children: Stephen (22), Rachel (20), and Candice (15).
Although Corcoran was born and raised in Northern Virginia his parents have lived in Martinsville, Virginia since 1981. His father, Kenneth B. "Corky" Corcoran is retired from the U.S. Army Chorus - Pershings Own in Ft. Meyer, Virginia. In addition, he retired a second time after serving 25 years as the Minister of Music at the First Methodist Church in Martinsville. His mother, Judy B. Corocran, retired after 25 years of service as the Executive Secretary to the Hospital Administrator at Martinsville Henry County Memorial Hospital. They are the owners of the downtown Martinsville store known as Arts, Etc. Four of his eight siblings also reside within thirty minutes of Eden.
In addition to his passion and involvement with his family and the youth of the community, Corcoran enjoys playing golf and hunting. He is a past president of the Eden Rotary Club and a past three year Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 7570. He is an assistant coach for the Blue Ridge Bombers 14U Softball Team and serves as the statistician for the baseball teams at Morehead High School and is an ex-officio member of the Executive Board for the Rockingham County Partnership for Economic and Tourism Development. Corcoran also serves as a Foundation Board Member at Morehead Memorial Hospital and he and his family are members at Leaksville United Methodist Church.
